Honda Collection Hall Motegi Japan

As Automotive museums and collections go The Honda Collection Hall and Museum near Motegi race track in Japan is no-expense-spared-top-shelf-shit. We were lucky enough to pay the place a visit last month while we were in Japan for the Japanese MotoGP race at Motegi circuit. Just approaching the main building from the outside it’s clear that Honda mean business. The interior is no less impressive. The collection is spread across three floors, with each floor dived between collections of Honda’s cars and motorcycles. Needless to say we were there for the motorcycles! The selection of bikes on display is as vast as it is incredible. Every production motorcycle that Honda have made is here. From the first bike to roll off the line to the latest CBR’s. But it’s the collection of racing motorcycles that leaves the biggest impression. They have them all! Early Mike Hailwood TT winner’s, Mick Doohan’s championship winning NSR’s Valentino Rossi’s and Nicky Hayden’s RC211V’s, Freddie Spencer’s NS500’s, Suzuka 8 hour endurance winners, and even a couple of bashed up Paris Dakar Africa Twins! Amazing! Another nice touch is at the museum shop. They have audio recordings of many of the race bikes which can be played back over headphones. Check out the RCB1000. Glorious! Even if you are not into motorcycles the collection is definitely worth a visit, if a little tricky to get to from Tokyo for example. You can view a 360’ virtual tour of the place here.
