Ducati Factory and Museum

If you are into your Ducati’s, motorcycle racing, or motorcycle culture of any kind for that matter, then you must visit the Ducati Factory and Museum. The factory is located in Bologna (in Italy!). As a motorcycle culture photographer and motorcycle sports photographer I have always wanted to visit this place. Ducati have been making motorcycles since 1950. The factory still operates from its original location in the Borgo Panigale area of Bologna. The Ducati Museum, or Museo Ducati in Italian, is located on the first floor above the factory and the entry is included in the ticket for the factory tour. Some super nice bikes on display. All the early production models are there, as well as plenty of the Championship winning MotoGP bikes and World Superbikes, plus a few of the Desmo V-Twin motors, and even a Cagiva Elephant (google it!). It’s a stunning space and you can see lots of care and passion has gone into setting it up. Nice!

The factory itself is incredible. Visitors are not allowed to take photos on the factory floor so you will just have to take my word for it. The passion for Ducati motorcycles is clear from the moment you arrive. All the people working there are deeply passionate about the bikes they are assembling and everyone who works at Ducati rides a Ducati. I also noticed a really nice balance of gender on the factory floor. It’s really quite something to see the engines coming off the line before all the components are bolted to the engine in the Ducati style of design. No frames on Ducati’s! The highlight of the tour is at the end when you are able to listen a dozen or so completed bikes being run on idle. Mamma Mia what a sound! Unfortunately I did not have so much time to spend there, but it was a super nice experience non the less. You can get all the info regarding the factory tour and the museum from the link above. The Ducati factory even has its own bus stop. How cool is that!

I shot all the photos here with my trusty iPhone 7 plus.
